4DryField® PH is an innovative medical device for adhesion prevention and hemostasis that can be used in a wide range of surgical applications. Due to its physical properties, 4DryField® PH can bind many times its own mass of fluid within a few seconds.
Many studies have shown the efficacy of 4DryField® PH, including several experimental studies, as well as publications from gynecology, visceral surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, urology, orthopedics, and burn surgery. The clinical studies from gynecology, visceral and pediatric cardiac surgery confirm also clinically the excellent efficiency of 4DryField® PH in adhesion prevention. Accordingly, a significant reduction of adhesions was proven in re-interventions (second looks). Furthermore, the time for freeing the heart during re-interventions was significantly reduced in pediatric cardiac surgery and in gynecology, 4DryField® PH led to reduced pain and a significantly increased pregnancy rate.
4DryField® PH for Adhesion Prevention
4DryField® PH for adhesion prophylaxis is based on the physical separation of existing wound surfaces. In order to ensure an individual application tailored to the surgeon(s) at all times, there are two different options for the use of 4DryField® PH: as an in-situ gel or as an extracorporeally mixed gel. The amount of 4DryField® PH depends on the intraoperative situation.

Fields of application
In principle, 4DryField® PH can be used for all surgical procedures – both open and laparoscopic. The use of 4DryField® PH has proven to be particularly effective in abdominal and pelvic surgeries, as patients particularly benefit from effective adhesion prevention.
4DryField® PH consists of sterile, hydrophilic microprous particles. These are manufactured from highly purified plant starch using the special SAFE™ technology. 4DryField® PH does not contain any components of human and/or animal origin and is therefore biocompatible, pyrogen-free and hypoallergenic. Furthermore, it demonstrates excellent tolerability, is non-cytotoxic and promotes recovery (Poehnert et al., 2015).
4DryField® PH meets the high requirements for a class III medical device. Side effects have not been reported to date. Occasionally, there may be a temporary CRP increase without leucocytosis and without temperature elevation(Ziegler et al., 2021), which subsides by itself after a few days.
